About Artist
Akansha Patil creates eco-conscious artworks using cardboard to explore themes of saudade a profound sense of longing, memory, and identity. Through the reimagining of everyday objects, her practice transforms the mundane into contemplative forms, foregrounding the transience and mobility of contemporary life. The cardboard box, recurring throughout her oeuvre, functions as a central symbol of impermanence, displacement, and movement.
Her innovative and sustainability-driven approach challenges conventional hierarchies of materiality, redefining the artistic potential of cardboard as both a conceptual and sculptural medium. While this material has been foundational to her practice, Patil now stands at a pivotal moment in her artistic journey, poised to explore new materials and evolving sensibilities of expression.
Patil is the recipient of the Gallery Art Positive Young Artist Residency Programme, where she was mentored by gallerist Mrs. Anu Bajaj. She has been represented by Gallery Art Positive at the India Design Fair in 2024 and 2025, as well as at the Mumbai Design Fair.
Originally from Nagpur, and having relocated to Mumbai to pursue her MFA at the Sir J. J. School of Art, Patil currently works between studios in Mumbai and Delhi. Her lived experience as an internal migrant within India deeply informs her artistic inquiry. The transition to a metropolitan environment required stepping beyond familiarity, yet it also opened pathways to growth, aspiration, and self-realisation echoing the shared journeys of countless young migrants.
